Not satisfied

I recently had to report to Hartford that my car was in an accident, hit by another car. The representative I was assigned to only called me once throughout this whole ordeal and ignored my e mails and other calls that I made to him.

I got conflicting answers when I had to speak to his "collegues", I received a letter from the other person's insurance company that if they do not hear from me within a few days, they will conclude I do not wish to pursue the claim and will close my file. I was told by Hartford that I did not have to speak to them.

I don't know if they treat other customers or senior citizens in the same manner, but I have never been treated so badly as they have treated me. The other person's insurance company contacted me before my "representative" from Hartford did !

Crazy People

We have used and paid Hartford for over 20 years as dedicated customers. During a hurricane and rain storms, both enterior and interior roof was severely damaged and we were fully covered for house insurance. However, it took argument after argument before Hartford sent engineers to validate coverage.THe first Hartford rep claimedit was "wear and tear" just to avoid paying for roof damages. My daughter kept calling to headquarters consumer affairs making several complaints which resulted in Erin Furniss sending Engineers to the house and the checks started to pay for the work. However, it took over six months to get the first check. These people kept sending little money $1100 (1st), $1800 (2nd) for a $32000 roof job. We argued and argued they are very unprofessional even had to tell one claim representative who came to the thouse to leave he was rude towards the home owner. Now the roofing company says they only got paid $18750 nothing more has arrived to the house to pay them - it's devastating.

Did you file your formal statement of this insurance company with your State's Insurance Commissioner? They need to track which insurances they will allow to sell products within their state.

STAY AWAY FROM AARP/THE HARTFORD

STAY AWAY FROM AARP/THE HARTFORD

My 94 year old widowed mother had homeowners insurance with AARP/The Hartford for 10 years. She never filed a claim.

Her house caught fire and burnt down September 10, 2019. She and my brother barely escaped. They lost their dog in the fire. When we filed the claim we were informed that my mother had missed paying the last months payment of her policy term that was ending September 14th.

They claim they sent her two late notices stating the premium, with late fees, had to be paid by 8/31/2019. My mother insists she did not receive the notices. Apparently, Maryland is one of the few states that does not require insurance cancellation notices be sent by certified mail to prove they were received. My mother lost a great-grandson suddenly on 7/31/2019, and his funeral wasnt held until mid-August.

She was grieving and consoling family during this time, so its understandable that she overlooked making her last payment. The Hartford does not care. We promptly sent in the late payment with late fees, but The Hartford chose to prorate the payment, and kept money to cover thru 8/31/2019. They chose to refund $56 that would have covered the remainder of the policy term thru 9/14/2019, which would have covered the fire.

I was even told by two different The Hartford customer service reps that If there was no claim, they would have accepted the late payment and reinstated the policy. But, since there is a claim, we cannot. So, for a difference of 10 days and $56, my mother lost her home and all her possessions and AARP/The Hartford will not help her rebuild or replace her belongings. This company is morally and ethically bankrupt.

Its all about ripping their customers off and finding loopholes to get out of paying claims.

They have no conscience about doing the right thing. Please warn everyone you know to stay away from AARP/The Hartford Insurance company!!!!

Not sure how you can blame the company. Any insurance company would have done the same. For someone her age, a family member should have been making sure this was being paid or set her up on autopay.

I do not drive anymore, age 89, and my family took my car away from me so my great-granddaughter takes me wherever I need to go. The car is paid off, but I have not yet gotten the title to change it into her name, but she will need liability insurance so I was checking with you to see the cost and if you would write a policy for her, age 23. My contract with The Hartford has come up for renewal so this is important to handle ASAP! If you are the wrong site for this, please forward because I had no other choice. I tried the hard of hearing, duh, couldn't understand anything that was said. If I do not get a reply in a few days, I will just completely cancel my insurance! Thank you! Lillian Lambert

Adverse Action Regarding Deceased and Out of State Relatives

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a policy from The Hartford in January of 2020. The sales person asked me about two people that were showing up as additional drivers at my house. I informed Hartford's employee that one of the individuals was my former spouse was passed away in 2018. The other individual was my stepdaughter who was attending law school in another state 1,300 miles away from me. I informed the person I was speaking to at the Hartford that my stepdaughter also had her own insurance policy. Two months later I receive three letters from the Hartford. In one of the three letters they stated they were going to add my deceased spouse to my policy as an additional driver. In another letter they stated they were going to add my step-daughter as an additional driver. In a third letter they were going to add a person who moved out of my house in 2003 to my policy. I provided the Hartford with the death certificate for my former spouse and the school id and declaration page for my step-daughter. I was advised by the Hartford my step-daughter was going to be placed on my policy anyway as an additional driver, and it did not matter she had her own policy in another state. This move by The Hartford was going to cost me over $1,000.00 more per year and would have resulted in my step-daughter being covered by two different policies out of two different states. This was communicated to the Hartford's escalation department, and they would not back down. If I had not canceled my policy, i would still be paying that today. In what some policy holders may describe as questionable, is about two weeks after I canceled the policy, I recevied a letter from The Hartford addressed to my deceased spouse asking if she would like to get a quote for auto insurance from The Hartford.

Claim was closed without our knowledge

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On Jun 4 , 2020 my wife was hit by another driver in her work parking lot. She filed a claim with the Hartford.

After giving a statement of what happened and sending a drawing of the accident to the Hartford adjuster. We got an email back stating that the fault was 50/50 for both drivers according to Hartford. Although the other persons insurance (Allstate) claimed that my wife was 100% responsible for the accident. The Hartford changed my wifes statement and the adjuster said that both drivers were backing up when the accident happened.

This was a bold faced lie, as my wife was backing into a parking spot when the other driver hit her. After I called a week later to ask about our claim, the adjuster had already closed the case and they were paying the other at fault driver who had Allstate insurance. When I told our adjuster that he threw my wife under the bus and closed the case he basically didnt care. We are paying customers of Hartford and found out that they dont care about their own customers!

Anyway the adjuster told me that I would have to give a statement to Allstate myself. I thought, why should I call the other drivers insurance, when Im paying for my insurance company to do that? Well after my wife gave a statement to Allstate, the Allstate adjuster told my wife that her statement would not change the outcome of Allstate putting 100% fault in my wife because the lady that caused the accident with my wifes car lied to her insurance company and they believed her. Sadly the Hartford did not challenge the other company but sides with their lies.

After this fiasco, we canceled our auto insurance with the Hartford and are now saving $500. 00 a year with Erie insurance Happy

Emotional abuse from Hartford from Adjuster to Corporate Office

The Hartford should not hide behind false advertising and hold themselves to a higher standard. When a complaint has been lodged, it should be addressed immediately and not left for the same adjuster to resolve and treat policy holders with impunity.
