I recently had to report to Hartford that my car was in an accident, hit by another car. The representative I was assigned to only called me once throughout this whole ordeal and ignored my e mails and other calls that I made to him.
I got conflicting answers when I had to speak to his "collegues", I received a letter from the other person's insurance company that if they do not hear from me within a few days, they will conclude I do not wish to pursue the claim and will close my file. I was told by Hartford that I did not have to speak to them.
I don't know if they treat other customers or senior citizens in the same manner, but I have never been treated so badly as they have treated me. The other person's insurance company contacted me before my "representative" from Hartford did !
Preferred solution: Would like this handled in the manner of which it should have been and want a call back regarding this situation.
User's recommendation: Not a good company to deal with.

STAY AWAY FROM AARP/THE HARTFORD
My 94 year old widowed mother had homeowners insurance with AARP/The Hartford for 10 years. She never filed a claim.
Her house caught fire and burnt down September 10, 2019. She and my brother barely escaped. They lost their dog in the fire. When we filed the claim we were informed that my mother had missed paying the last months payment of her policy term that was ending September 14th.
They claim they sent her two late notices stating the premium, with late fees, had to be paid by 8/31/2019. My mother insists she did not receive the notices. Apparently, Maryland is one of the few states that does not require insurance cancellation notices be sent by certified mail to prove they were received. My mother lost a great-grandson suddenly on 7/31/2019, and his funeral wasnt held until mid-August.
She was grieving and consoling family during this time, so its understandable that she overlooked making her last payment. The Hartford does not care. We promptly sent in the late payment with late fees, but The Hartford chose to prorate the payment, and kept money to cover thru 8/31/2019. They chose to refund $56 that would have covered the remainder of the policy term thru 9/14/2019, which would have covered the fire.
I was even told by two different The Hartford customer service reps that If there was no claim, they would have accepted the late payment and reinstated the policy. But, since there is a claim, we cannot. So, for a difference of 10 days and $56, my mother lost her home and all her possessions and AARP/The Hartford will not help her rebuild or replace her belongings. This company is morally and ethically bankrupt.
Its all about ripping their customers off and finding loopholes to get out of paying claims.
They have no conscience about doing the right thing. Please warn everyone you know to stay away from AARP/The Hartford Insurance company!!!!

On Jun 4 , 2020 my wife was hit by another driver in her work parking lot. She filed a claim with the Hartford.
After giving a statement of what happened and sending a drawing of the accident to the Hartford adjuster. We got an email back stating that the fault was 50/50 for both drivers according to Hartford. Although the other persons insurance (Allstate) claimed that my wife was 100% responsible for the accident. The Hartford changed my wifes statement and the adjuster said that both drivers were backing up when the accident happened.
This was a bold faced lie, as my wife was backing into a parking spot when the other driver hit her. After I called a week later to ask about our claim, the adjuster had already closed the case and they were paying the other at fault driver who had Allstate insurance. When I told our adjuster that he threw my wife under the bus and closed the case he basically didnt care. We are paying customers of Hartford and found out that they dont care about their own customers!
Anyway the adjuster told me that I would have to give a statement to Allstate myself. I thought, why should I call the other drivers insurance, when Im paying for my insurance company to do that? Well after my wife gave a statement to Allstate, the Allstate adjuster told my wife that her statement would not change the outcome of Allstate putting 100% fault in my wife because the lady that caused the accident with my wifes car lied to her insurance company and they believed her. Sadly the Hartford did not challenge the other company but sides with their lies.
After this fiasco, we canceled our auto insurance with the Hartford and are now saving $500. 00 a year with Erie insurance

The Hartford should not hide behind false advertising and hold themselves to a higher standard. When a complaint has been lodged, it should be addressed immediately and not left for the same adjuster to resolve and treat policy holders with impunity.
